ZT2 I tried as adult, 10 years after its release and I haven't felt anything for this game. When I finally get a copy I was playing it for hundreds hours. It's not as enjoyable as its older games.Īlso I am guessing it is because of nostalgia. The same problem has for example Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. 3D grafics in tycoon games of early '00 are getting old really bad meanwhile pixeling 2D tycoon games don't have that problem. I am guessing it is because of its grafics. Honestly I don't remember exactly why, ZT2 just have got me boring so quickly.
To me, Planet Zoo seems like it is fun to BUILD but not fun to PLAY, which are wholly separate things and explains why so many things I see about Planet Zoo are either pictures of amazing builds, or people complaining about animals not using their immaculately crafted shelters. Frontier added a bunch of things to JWE that made it not fun to play, and it didn't even have the customizable aspect that Planet Zoo did. I've never actually played Planet Zoo because I sensed that I would have the same issues that I have with Jurassic World: Evolution, which I did purchase and according to Steam I've played for 42 hours over 4 years.

I've played ZT1, ZT2, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, and Sim City 4 for thousands of hours, so I thought that these newer titles would be right up my business simulator alley. The gameplay was made far more complex with a bunch of features that not only do not add to the enjoyment of the game but actually detract from it. If Planet Zoo was just ZT2 with better graphics AND the ability to make 100% custom assets it would be perfect. The expanded gameplay features were all that was really needed from ZT1.

It was a massive upgrade from ZT1 in terms of graphics, functionality, and immersion since you aren't stuck in an orthogonal world from an isometric view in the sky. Zoo Tycoon 2 really is the best of both worlds.
